Hi,

Is SOGo-Connector plugin support for Thunderbird 38.1 planned?

I really want to use it, but there are only old versions to download

I had the same problem. In fact, the "SOGo Connector Thunderbird
extension Version 31.0.1 (released on January 9th 2015)" available
from http://www.sogo.nu/downloads/frontends.html, even though it is
specifically advertized for Thunderbird 31 and Lightning 3.3.2,
also works with Thunderbird 38.1 and integrated Lighting 4.0.1.2.

If anybody with editor access to the sogo.nu website reads this:
It might be helpful to mention that fact on the download page.

You are sport on!!

I now installed it on TB 38.1.

YES, this website page should be more generic about TB (now it is too
specific = confusing) and its great that every new verion of TB do not
need a new verion of "SOGo Connector Thunderbird extension"

That was my view also.

But after using it for a couple of weeks I encounter some problems.

I'm not sure if the problems related to TB38 and connector 31.0.1!?

The problem is, that connector stops working with a addressbook after
changing, moving a contact to the addressbook.

So, there is a need to have a look to compatibility and failures with TB38.

Gruss

I am not experiencing that kind of problems, so I would assume that the
cause must be something that is different between your setup and mine.

Hello

Perhaps you try to write/change in an address book for which you do not
have write privileges?
If yes, that is your problem.
Just remove that address book from Thunderbird restart Thunderbird and
add it again.

That is a known Problem with the Thunderbird address book.

Kind regards,

Hi Christian,

I understand that this may be a problem with the TB Address Book, but
shouldn't SOGo be able to work around this somehow?

As you know, relying on Users to do the right thing is an exercise in
futility. This has been probably the largest single source of pain for
our users - along with the lack of a proper 'Author' permission for
Calendars.

Also - is there a TB bug open to address this properly?

Thanks,

Charles

Hi,

I'm the owner of the Address book and do have write permissions!

As i described, the problem is related to some contacts not to the
complete address book in general.

Addressbooks:
- personal address book (local) - normally empty
- Fastmail (CardDAV) - 576 contacts

Hallo Tilman,

Online-Adressbuch.
Es kommt bei mir fÃŒrs Online-Adr-Buch die Sogo-Connetor-Meldung "no
Changes". Es kommt zu Duplizierung der Kontakte.

Besten Dank

Hi Ralf,

finally got around to do a few tests with your data.

#1: imported all three contacts from your mail into the previously empty
Thunderbird personal address book

- In the second entry, Thunderbird doesn't display the UTF8 encoded
umlauts correctly:
* The "Ì" in "First Name" appears as "Ì".
* The "Ì" in "Display Name" appears as "=C3=83=C5=92".
* The "ö" in "Work/City" appears as "ö".
- In the third entry, Thunderbird doesn't display the phone number
(marked "TYPE=CELL,VOICE").

#2: selected all three contacts in the personal address book and moved
them to the CardDAV address book by drag&drop

- Thunderbird status message: "moved 3 contacts"
- SoGO Connector popup message: "3 uploads, 0 download, 0 delete"
- entries disappear in the personal address book and appear in the
CardDAV address book; no duplicates

#3: selected all three contacts in the CardDAV address book and moved
them to the personal address book by drag&drop

- Thunderbird status message: "moved 3 contacts"
- no SoGO Connector message
- entries disappear in the CardDAV address book and appear in the
personal address book; no duplicates

#4: emptied the personal address book; imported all three contacts from
your mail into the CardDAV address book

- same presentation errors as before
- each of the two entries that have an E-mail address appears twice in
the CardDAV address book, but the entry without an E-mail address
appears only once

#5: selected all five contacts in the CardDAV address book and moved
them to the personal address book by drag&drop

- Thunderbird status message: "moved 5 contacts"
- no SoGO Connector message
- entries appear in the personal address book; the entry without an
E-mail address disappears in the CardDAV address book, but the double
entries remain

#6: manually forced synchronization of the CardDAV address book

- SoGO Connector popup message: "4 uploads, 0 download, 0 delete"
- all entries are gone in Thunderbird's display for the CardDAV address book
- the CardDAV server's web GUI shows each of the two entries with E-mail
addresses three times, and the one without an E-mail address once

#7: manually forced synchronization of the CardDAV address book again

- SoGO Connector popup message: "0 upload, 4 downloads, 0 delete"
- CardDAV server's web GUI unchanged
- Thunderbird displays in the CardDAV address book each of the two
entries with E-mail addresses twice, and the one without an E-mail
address not at all

Strange.

It's obviously not specific to your environment, but it may be specific
to your address book entries, as I've never seen that behaviour before.
Post by RalfK
This should go to an error report!?
Definitely. But it would be nice to isolate the trigger condition a bit
more to prevent a hasty "works for me" closure. Right now I see two
conspicuous differences between the vCards you sent me and my own:

a) the pervasive use of the "CHARSET=UTF-8:" prefix in your vCards which
I never see in mine

b) the use of commas in the TYPE attribute in your vCards, for example
"EMAIL;TYPE=PREF,INTERNET:", mine using separate attributes instead, as
in like "EMAIL;TYPE=home;TYPE=pref;TYPE=internet:"

If that doesn't ring a bell with one of the developers who hopefully
follow this mailing list I'll try to find the time for a few more tests
in that direction. It might also be interesting to watch more closely
for differences appearing between the content of the CardDAV addressbook
on the server (as reported by its web GUI) and the data displayed for
the same addressbook in Thunderbird/SOGo Connector.
